Welcome
This group covers the geographic area of Welwyn Hatfield and East Hertfordshire councils.
We promote the aims of Amnesty International to the local community through public campaigning events - for example the annual Greetings Card Campaign in the Howard Centre shopping mall in Welwyn Garden City, activities at the Kaleidoscope Multi-cultural Festival at Stanborough Park and focussed actions on major human rights violations.
In addition we hold monthly meetings, primarily concentrating on letter writing on behalf of Prisoners of Conscience and other individuals at risk.
You are invited to join us in any of these activities whether you are a long-standing member of Amnesty, have just joined or want to find out more about being part of an active group of human rights campaigners.
Please download our newsletter (updates Dec 2009)
In October 2009 the group have been allocated 3 new Prisoners of Conscience, again in Burma/Myanmar. They are Htay Kywe, Mie Mie [also known as Thin Thin Aye] and Zaw Htet Ko Ko. Details of these activists for human rights and democracy can be obtained from the casework leader Reg Pyne at reg.pyne@btinternet.com. Contact him for an action briefing if you are able to join in the campaign for their release.
